Terry Vahey

Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice President

Terry Vahey is the Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice President for IT Services at San José State University in San José, California.  Her focus is commitment to customer service and alignment of IT services with strategic business goals that contribute to success of the university’s educational mission.  Thirty years in IT within the California State University have given Terry experience with information security, system design, operations, auditing, and management of wide-ranging technologies including network infrastructure, enterprise resource planning, collaboration suites, and business applications.  Terry has held a variety of IT leadership roles within the California State University collaborating with campus constituents to deliver technology solutions for administrative and academic users.  She embraces the new model for higher education described in “ (Are We Innovation-Ready? A new model for higher education, 2013)” published by the Office of the President at San José State University, which states in part, “The advent of digital technologies and the proliferation of the Internet have made infinitely more teaching and learning methods available. Higher education must ag­gressively test and adopt the best, most effective methods available.”  She values collaboration, integration, mobility, and security as themes that provide the framework for IT product and service decision making.

Terry holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Management from the University of San Francisco and a Master’s degree in Administration from California State University, Bakersfield.  She holds two information systems certifications:

. CISSP: Certified Information Systems Security Professional, from ISC2

. CRISC: Certified Risk and Information Systems Control, from the ISACA organization

San José State University (SJSU), founded in 1857, is Silicon Valley’s largest institution of higher learning and one of 23 campuses in the California State University system.
